KUALA LUMPUR: To win an award in Cannes, France is prestigious in the eyes of a star’s adoring fans — even if it is not from the main Cannes Film Festival.
Popular actor Remy Ishak and comedian Nabil Ahmad have done just that, at the Asian Academy Creative Awards (AAA) held in Cannes last Monday.
The annual awards is part of the annual trade show MIPCOM (International Market of Communications Programmes) which is held in the south-eastern French city every October.
Remy won Best Supporting Actor at the awards for the Astro First drama series Dosa, in which he played a silat exponent Farid, while Nabil won Best Host for Astro Ria’s established singers’ musical challenge Gegar Vaganza 4.
In an Instagram post yesterday, Remy said: “Thank you all so much for the opportunity to play Farid in Dosa. Thank you AAA for the acknowledgement. Congrats to you too Nabil.”
Meanwhile, Nabil who also took to Instagram saying: “Thank you so much for giving me such a big award. Many thanks to my family and not to forget co-host Jihan Muse and all in the Gegar Vaganza team.”
Their fans and followers flooded their posts with congratulatory messages
Dosa also won Best Cinematography (Yadi Sugandi) and Best Editing (Andhy Pulung).
Dosa which was screened last year featured actors from Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia, with a cast comprising of Datuk M Nasir, Ashraf Sinclair, Singapore’s Shenty Feliziana and Hisyam Hamid, and Indonesia’s Roy Marten and Maudy Koesnaedi.
It tells the story of a silat master from Kampung Baru who sends his three sons to Jakarta to rescue their kidnapped younger sister. Along the way, they find out about their father’s dark past and put their martial arts skills to good use fighting vicious triads.
