#Showbiz: New Upin & Ipin film adopts foreign technology

KUALA LUMPUR: The upcoming animation film Upin & Ipin: Keris Siamang Tunggal has taken five years to produce, to ensure the best quality of work is presented to moviegoers.

Les’ Copaque Production managing director Burhanuddin Md Radzi said that he hoped this film would elevate local animation to a level similar to those from abroad.

“It took us a longer time to make this film since we wanted to improve its technical aspects. We also used the latest technology from Hong Kong, Thailand and the US,” he said in a news report today.

He added that his company had spent some RM20 million for the film

Having created a phenomenon 10 years ago when it produced Malaysia’s first 3D animation movie Geng: Pengembaraan Bermula, Les’ Copaque is thrilled to see the film screened in cinemas beginning March 21.

The film is helmed by three young directors — Ahmad Razuri Roseli, Adam Amiruddin dan Syed Nurfaiz Khalid Syed Ibrahim — who were all involved in the company’s previous animation series Upin & Ipin, Pada Zaman Dahulu and Puteri.

In Upin & Ipin: Keris Siamang Tunggal, the twins Upin and Ipin find themselves embarking on an adventure after they come across an old kris named Keris Siamang Tunggal, which belonged to a Tok Dalang (a shadow play narrator). In their adventure, the boys meet various characters from Malaysian folklores such as Mat Jenin, Si Tanggang, Pak Belalang, Bawang Putih and Bawang Merah.

The film will also be screened in Indonesia, Brunei and Singapore.
