#Showbiz: Kung Fu Hustle 2 confirmed, Stephen Chow not in leading role

KUALA LUMPUR: Popular Hong Kong film director and actor Stephen Chow says that filming for Kung Fu Hustle 2 will begin soon.

According to a news report today, the 56-year-old multi-talented artiste said that it would take place after he finished wrapping up filming of the sequel to Mermaid.

“However, I will not be playing the lead role. Instead, may be I’ll play a cameo role, who might get beaten up in the movie, seeing that my age doesn’t allow me to play a role of a tough guy agile in his fighting actions,” he said.

Chow said that the new film will not be a sequel to the first comedy action which he directed and starred back in 2004.

While the first movie was set in the 1940s, this one is set in the current era.

Kung Fu Hustle was released on Dec 23, 2004 in China, and a US release on Jan 25, 2005. It grossed US$17 million (RM69.14 million) in North America and US$84 million (RM341.63 million) in other regions.
