KUALA LUMPUR: Hantu Kak Limah director Mamat Khalid is thankful to be on the mend following his two-month hospitalisation last January.
The 56-year-old filmmaker said he thanked God that his heart, lungs and kidneys were “a lot better now”.
“I still need to go for physiotherapy to strengthen my legs, which got weakened because of my illness. When I was in a coma in hospital, a lot of my muscles shrunk and I’ve got to build them up again with help from medical assistants.
“But most importantly, I’ve got to watch what I eat and learn to live healthier. That was a wake-up call for me to look after my health,” he said in news report yesterday.
Mamat whose other films include Kala Malam Bulan Mengambang and the Rock series said that when he was in a coma, the doctors “rid him of toxins” through dialysis.
“It’s a blessing that I’m back home safe and sound for the holy month of Ramadan, and I’ll wisen up after that experience.”
Mamat also revealed that his next project would be a telemovie titled 17 Puasa. Starring Sabri Yunus, Aziz M. Osman and Ngasrizal Ngasri, it will be screened on Astro during Ramadan.
Mamat was admitted to the Assunta Hospital in Petaling Jaya on Jan 25, following breathing difficulties and chest pains.
Doctors put him in an induced coma to allow his organs to rest.
Two years ago, he was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of a hospital in Ampang shortly after the premiere of his movie Lebuhraya Ke Neraka.
In 2014, he underwent surgery for a blockage in one of his arteries.
Prior to his hospitalisation, Mamat had completed the filming of Rock 4: Quo Vadis Komer. It is currently in the midst of post-production work, and is scheduled for an August premiere.
