KUALA LUMPUR: Actress Betty Banafe and Bruce Dargus are no longer husband and wife after they got divorced with two “talak”, the first on July 4 and the second on July 5.
The 40-year-old actress, whose real name is Ibtisam Sekh Abu Bakar, added that she accepted it as fate and saw a silver lining behind the dissolution of the seven-year marriage.
In a news report today, she said: “We went our separate ways on good terms.”
“Left to my own devices, I would have not wanted to share this or elaborate further on the issue but I was afraid that there would be fitnah (untruths), so I had to get it out in the open.
“I believe that there is a silver lining behind what has happened and he was a good spouse but unfortunately we are not a fitting match anymore. Our jodoh (compatibility) was short-lived,” she said.
The star of Buai Laju-laju, Aleya Maisarah and Spa Q had earlier said that although she was still saddened by the separation she had to move on and continue with her life as usual.
“Life goes on despite what has happened. But for me, maybe this is also an opportunity for me to seek out guidance from God and to accept His will and plan for me.
“I will now just focus completely on my children and family. Aside from that, I will also be busy managing my three businesses, a travel agency, a production company and a motivational training centre,” she said.
The actress, who is of Malay, Arab and Javanese descent tied the knot with Dargus, a British-American businessman and technology consultant, on Dec 8, 2012.
They are blessed with two children, Julia Claire Dargus, 6, and Bruce Dean Dargus, 4.
