KUALA LUMPUR: Ejen Ali The Movie has been certified as a RM20 million blockbuster film in just two weeks at the box office. Having recorded 1.7 million admissions to date, it has also received excellent rating by Internet movie database, IMDb at 9.4 (over 10).
Its co-producers Primeworks Studios and WAU Animation today announced that the film’s encouraging performance was boosted by the overwhelming glowing reviews from audience who turned up in droves for repeat viewings at the cinemas.
“Ejen Ali The Movie marks a new milestone for Primeworks Studios as it has emerged as the biggest movie in our studio’s nearly 25-year history of making films,” said Primeworks Studios chief executive officer Datuk Ahmad Izham Omar.
“We are truly humbled for the opportunity to close the 2019 chapter on such a high note, more so to be standing amongst the giants of the Malaysian animation industry this year. Thank you to all the outstanding Ejens and fans who have embarked on this mission to conquer the cinemas with us, we wouldn’t have been able to achieve it if it wasn’t for all your diehard support,” he added.
Meanwhile, WAU Animation chief executive officer Usamah Zaid Yasin said that they were highly encouraged by the strong box office showing for the animated movie, proving that all the heart and effort they had invested to create it had resonated with the audience.
“Our immense gratitude goes out to all the fans for streaming into the cinemas, and for telling their friends and family to watch the movie. We hope the numbers won’t stop there!”
Ejen Ali The Movie follows 12-year-old Ejen Ali, who after being accidentally recruited as a spy has now grown to embrace his role in secret agency Meta Advance Tactical Agency (MATA) to protect the futuristic city of Cyberaya from outside threats.
Ali is surprised to discover that he is no longer the only master of the Infinity Retinal Intelligence System (IRIS) gadget since MATA has now upgraded to IRIS Neo for all MATA agents.
When the new invention leads Ali to question his place and usefulness to MATA, he is approached by a rogue figure who claims to know about a surprising personal connection to Ali. Risking his loyalty to MATA, Ejen Ali embarks on a thrilling chase to unravel these mysterious links.
