KUALA LUMPUR: Popular animated film Upin & Ipin: Keris Siamang Tunggal has fallen victim to cyber piracy, via social media platforms as Facebook, YouTube and Telegram app.
The box-office film is made available on Astro First and Astro On Demand beginning Dec 3.
In a press statement today, Les' Copaque Production expressed its disappointment that the film was made available for free on Facebook, YouTube and even via the Telegram App.
Apart from that, it is also available on the android box which is openly sold at shopping malls.
Les' Copaque Production said it was alerted on the matter by various parties.
Taking the piracy issue seriously, the production house has lodged a police report so that an investigation can take place and the be proprietors be caught. Those found to have downloaded the film illegally and provided the link for sharing purposes will be brought to justice.
Thanking fans of Upin & Ipin for supporting the film legally via Astro First, Les' Copaque Production also announced the film's collection of RM1 million within 3 days of screening.
The 2019 Upin & Ipin: Keris Siamang Tunggal was shortlisted for Best Animated Film at last year's Academy Awards. It also bagged other international awards in Montreal, Canada and Singapore.
