KUALA LUMPUR: Tiffany Young of Girls' Generation fame will be putting her vocal, dancing and acting skills to good use once more in an upcoming production of the musical theatre hit, Chicago.
The 31-year-old idol had previously made her musical debut in 2011 when she played the lead role of Carmen Diaz in Fame.
According to Koreaboo, the Korean-American artiste was one of 22 actors who beat over a thousand other potentials during auditions for Chicago.
Tiffany was chosen to play the lead role of Roxie Hart in the satirical story about corruption in the criminal justice system which also highlights the concept of the celebrity criminal.
Set during the Jazz Age in the 1920s, Chicago follows the conflict between Roxie and Velma Kelly, two convicts who are fighting for fame.
The famous musical premiered on Broadway in 1975 and was later adapted into a Hollywood movie in 2002, which starred Renée Zellweger as Roxie.
Apparently, Tiffany didn't ask for special treatment despite being a superstar and famous celebrity who introduced the world to K-Pop.
In a statement, the Chicago production team from the Seensee Company said: "Her love for the work led to her preparation for the audition, and even in the midst of unfamiliar actors, she carried out the requests of the production staff with passion, which got her the role."
Fans of the California-born artiste found out last June that she was back in South Korea after she uploaded a practice room photo with Fin.K.L's Ock Joo Hyun.
Ock is a longstanding musical theatre actress who had previously took on the role of Roxie as well.
Tiffany later revealed that she had returned specifically to audition for the musical since the character of Roxie Hart was one of her top three dream roles to portray.
In a previous interview, she said she had been keeping an eye out for Chicago auditions for several years now and was very grateful to have been finally able to give it a shot.
Following weeks of quarantine and eight months of preparations and auditions for this particular production, her dream has now materialised.
After the news was made public, Tiffany received congratulatory messages on Instagram from fellow Girls' Generation members as well as other fellow celebrities.
This Korean production of Chicago is set to premiere on April 2 at D-Cube Art Center in Sindorim-dong, Seoul and will run till July 18.
