KUALA LUMPUR: Popular teahouse chain Chatime Malaysia Sdn Bhd has verified that celebrity couple Noor Neelofa Mohd Noor and Haris Ismail a.k.a. PU Riz are in Langkawi for work matters.
Its group managing director Aliza Ali, said that Neelofa and her husband were currently on a business trip to visit three locations in the northern zone, namely Sungai Petani and Langkawi in Kedah, as well as Kangar, Perlis, to facilitate the opening of new branches.
In a statement yesterday, she said: "The trip also involves several staff, operations personnel and management of Chatime Malaysia."
Aliza added that permission to traverse state borders to Langkawi had been obtained from a police station adhering to the set SOP.
In the statement that was also shared on Chatime Malaysia's Instagram account, Aliza further said that, "It is hoped that this statement would give clarity to the matter at hand."
Since yesterday, photos of newlyweds Neelofa and PU Riz seen in Langkawi had gone viral on the social media platform, which sparked rumours on how the couple could cross over state borders to have their honeymoon.
Meanwhile, Brickfields district police had verified that permission was given to the celebrity duo and three other individuals to travel to Langkawi on the basis for work and not to celebrate their honeymoon.
Based on the application from a representative of a beverage company at the Sri Hartamas Police Station, the reason for Neelofa and a company representative as well as two other individuals travelling there was for business matters with Chatime Malaysia.
Brickfields district deputy police chief Superintendent Basri Sagoni said that, following the application, they were allowed to proceed to the location from March 27 to April 4.
Last Saturday, the solemnisation ceremony of Neelofa, 32, and PU Riz, 26, at a hotel in the capital city sparked controversy after allegations of not conforming to the strict SOP.
Following this, the wedding event's manager and founder of Reka Teemor, Faiz Sabari had his statement recorded by the police at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters (IPD), yesterday.
Also present to provide a statement to the police was Neelofa's personal assistant, Nadiah Khairuddin.
It was also reported that Dang Wangi district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Zainal Abdullah had confirmed that Neelofa and PU Riz would still be called to provide their statements to the police with regards to their recent wedding event.
