#Showbiz: Actress Koe Yeet up for Best Newcomer at Asia Contents Awards

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian actress Koe Yeet has been nominated Best Newcomer Actress at the Asia Contents Awards (ACA), run by the Busan International Film Festival of South Korea.

Singapore entertainment portal 8 Days reported that the 29-year-old actress was nominated for her role in the 2020 Singaporean drama series Titoudao: Inspired By The True Story Of A Wayang Star.

Titoudao, a 13-episode period drama adapted from the 1994 play of the same name by Goh Boon Teck, followed the life of a Chinese opera star named Ah Chiam (played by Koe), who was based on the playwright's mother.

The ACA received 163 submissions, including television and online series from 16 countries, double the number of submissions last year.

The awards ceremony will be streamed on Oct 7.

Law graduate Koe, from Petaling Jaya, began acting when she was five in various television advertisements.

Koe appeared in the 2011 Chinese New Year comedy Homecoming alongside Datuk Afdlin Shauki, singer-songwriter Aniu, and Singaporean stars Jack Neo and Rebecca Lim of HBO drama series The Bridge.

She also starred in the 2008 action-comedy Ah Long Pte Ltd directed by Neo.
