KUALA LUMPUR: Like father, like son. The age-old proverb holds true for multi-talented Datuk AC Mizal and Muhammad Reeve Damien Mizal.
Television host, actor, comedian and singer AC, 49, has just come up with his first collaboration with 18-year-old Damien, titled Mine.
The hip-hop and pop number is produced and written by the father-and-son team as well as Adam E, Freddie Lau and ADL.
It was supposed to be launched last year, but the Covid-19 pandemic delayed the production process.
Recording took place on Jan 3, courtesy of their record label Universal Music Malaysia.
"Damien has always wanted to follow in my footsteps, and I have always given him my fullest support, provided he goes all out to shine," said AC in a recent statement.
"He worked extra hard to come up with Mine, and I'm proud to say that he did a superb job."
AC added that the song also came with a music video that was recorded on Oct 10, and its concept was largely Damien's idea.
"I told him to go all out and create a good song and an equally good video that reflect the tastes of the younger generation.
"What was most important, I emphasised, was to give audiences a song that was catchy, entertaining and memorable," he said.
Damien said that the story behind Mine was simple and universal, about a young man who tried hard to win the heart of the woman of his dreams on social media, and he eventually succeeded because of his honesty and humility.
"I am a business diploma graduate and have been interested in music since I was 10. Prior to recording Mine, I took vocal classes for six months," he said, adding that his biggest musical influences were Australian artiste Ruel and Canadian artiste Daniel Caesar.
Damien is AC's son from his second marriage to Datin Emylia Rosnaida.
He has a 13-year-old sister and two elder brothers aged 25 and 22 from his father's first marriage.
Mine was launched on all major musical streaming platforms last Friday.
