KUALA LUMPUR: Known as the "SMS King" of Astro reality talent show Akademi Fantasia, Asmawi Ani or Mawi is set to share his life story with fans in a brand new autobiography which will be launched soon.
The book titled Mawi Dalam Lautan Manusia (Mawi In A Sea Of People), is about the 41-year-old singer, actor, director and radio announcer's journey from Felda scheme resident to "overnight star", and the challenges he faced before and after stardom.
"The book is my honest account of my journey thus far, and it chronicles the ups and downs of my career as well," said Mawi in a news report yesterday.
He added that the book would reveal several "inside stories" behind some of the controversies he was embroiled in, and how he coped with the pressures of instant stardom.
"Fame may be a blessing, but it also brought me a lot of problems which I had to bear with fortitude. I am dedicating this book to my parents and loved ones, and everyone who helped me along my journey," said Mawi.
"I hope readers will enjoy it, and learn useful lessons on pursuing entertainment as a career."
Mawi spent a year writing the book, and was assisted by a close friend who is an author.
Mawi, a contestant in the third season of Akademi Fantasia in 2005, became hugely popular in terms of Short Messaging Service (SMS) votes from viewers.
In every weekly concert, he garnered 30 to 40 per cent of votes, and won hands down after 10 weeks.
The Kulai-born artiste has released five studio albums from 2005 to 2008, and has starred in four films to date.
His newest film, Hantu Kuat Ketawa, produced by his own company Mawi World Entertainment, is set to be released at year's end.
Hantu Kuat Ketawa is the second film directed by Mawi after Tiada Tajuk in 2019.
