KUALA LUMPUR: The recent flash floods which hit parts of the Klang Valley, including the heart of the federal capital, have made actor Azhar Sulaiman deeply worried.
The star of films as Senario Lagi, Sayang Salmah and Abang 92 said that he was saddened by the plight of residents and motorists in areas affected by the floods.
Azhar uploaded a photograph of parked cars submerged in muddy water during the floods, and said in his caption that he was lucky to have been spared.
"It could have been my car in this picture. This is terrible, we're struggling to survive in the pandemic that's still raging, and now we've also got to face flooding," said Azhar in his caption to the photograph.
"I'm feeling so depressed seeing this. How can I find all the money to settle this mess?"
Netizens agreed with Azhar. Some felt depressed because of the "double calamities", while others said Malaysians should lessen floods by helping to curb global warming.
"I feel just the same, Azhar. We all got to pray that Covid-19 and flooding become a thing of the past," said Akmal.
"The flooding is our fault, too. We have to be more environment-friendly and do our part to lessen global warming," said Sofia.
"Flooding can be reduced if the government upgrades our drainage system and we stop littering in drains," said Zainal.
Many parts of the Klang Valley were flooded during a thunderstorm last Monday.
Malaysian Meteorological Department director-general Muhammad Helmi Abdullah said that it was caused by the concentration of winds that encouraged the formation of intensive thunderstorm clouds.
Floods also occurred in Perak, Johor, Negri Sembilan and Melaka, and more than 2,000 people had to be evacuated to temporary evacuation centres.
