KUALA LUMPUR: King of Pop Datuk Jamal Abdillah says he has no personal agenda behind his recent appointment as Supreme Council committee member of Muafakat Nasional (MN).
The 63-year-old artiste however, said what made him join the non-governmental organisation, was his belief with its aim of instilling his love, unity and respect among Malaysians.
"Perhaps the reason why its president (Tan Sri Annuar Musa) invited me to join MN was due to my views on the need to uphold unity, which I always share on various WhatsApp groups."
"As an artiste, I have to also be careful not to make my involvement in MN be politicised by any unscrupulous quarters," he said in a news report yesterday.
Jamal, who supports the idea of unity in a multiracial community, said all he wanted to see was a prosperous country with a stable government for the benefit of all, especially the future generations.
Besides him, other fellow artistes in the committee included Datuk Seri Eizlan Yusof and Ummi Nazeera.
Ummi Nazeera's husband Dr Mohd Izzar Anwari Abdul Khan took to Instagram yesterday to explain that her involvement in MN was not politically-motivated.
"As a public figure, my wife is aware that she should always be neutral and not use any platform to blatantly show her association or support to any political party.
"In my observation, MN's objectives are geared towards the betterment of our society.
"Otherwise, I would be the first person to stop her from joining the organisation," he said when responding to speculations made following her appointment.
