KUALA LUMPUR: Versatile actress Datin Sofia Jane's latest film Maryam Pagi Ke Malam is set to premiere at the International Film Festival Rotterdam 2023.
Produced by Rhu Graha, a unit of film company Gunung Cherita, it has been selected for the IFFR's Harbour Programme, which curates the full range of contemporary cinema around the world.
"Maryam is the sole Malaysian film featured in this year's edition," said Rhu Graha and Gunung Cherita in a joint statement today.
Besides Sofia, the film also stars Susan Lankester, Vanidah Imran, Omar Abdullah, Roslan Madun, Pekin Ibrahim, Azman Hassan, Bella Rahim and Taqim Zaki, with a screenplay by Faisal Tehrani and Badrul Hisham Ismail as director.
"It follows a day in the life of Maryam, a 50-year-old gallerist from an aristocratic family, as she seeks her father's blessing to marry, and overcomes bureaucratic challenges that prevent women like herself from choosing their own spouse."
IFFR will be held between Jan 25 and Feb 5 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
Maryam Pagi Ke Malam is co-produced by Anomalous Films and Kerja Summer, and is supported by the Ministry of Communications and Digital, MyCreative and the National Economic Recovery Plan (Penjana).
