KUALA LUMPUR: Song Hye-Kyo is South Korea's highest paid actress, commanding 200 million won (RM689,902) per drama episode, while Kim Soo-Hyun is the highest paid actor with 300 million won (RM1,034,852) per episode.
Korea Star Daily reported yesterday that among the highest paid actresses, Jeon Ji-Hyun and Song Hye-Kyo also earned around 200 million won per drama episode.
Besides Kim, actors who earned around 300 million Won included Song Joong-Ki, Lee Jong-Seok, Ji Chang-Wook and Lee Min-Ho. The actors can receive 4.8 billion won (RM16,560,792) per project plus a bonus payment if the drama gains popularity outside South Korea.
With the popularity of online streaming platforms, many broadcasting companies are releasing web series with only six to 12 episodes.
In order to attract artistes, they are compelled to pay higher fees per episode.
Soo-Hyun reportedly received 500 million won (RM1,725,026) per episode for One Ordinary Day.
Meanwhile, actor Lee Jung-Jae's salary has risen to 1 billion won (RM3,449,661) per episode for Squid Game 2.
