#Showbiz: Kayda Aziz returns with 'Len Macam' after year-long hiatus

KUALA LUMPUR: A famous English proverb "where there is a will, there is a way" best describes hip-hop singer Kayda Aziz's determination to rise high in Malaysian music.

Kayda, the daughter of music producer Roslan Aziz and veteran singer Datuk Sheila Majid, has just released her latest single Len Macam after a year-long hiatus, and she co-wrote and co-composed it with music producer DJ Ziqq.

"This song feels like a rebirth of myself after not producing any songs for more than a year," said Kayda in a statement yesterday.

The 31-year-old singer, whose real name is Wan Nur Khaleda Aziz, added that she took time to reflect on her life and career because she had "been through a lot".

"I spent some time travelling abroad and spending quality time with family, and as a result, I am back stronger and wiser musically."

Kayda said that Len Macam was a word that she and her friends often used in their conversations.

"That's why I thought it would be great to turn that phrase into a new song."

Kayda said her new song in English and Malay was a fusion of reggae, R&B and pop music, which she recorded in four hours.

"It has a music video which was recorded in a day, and it features me with seven outfit changes. I want to thank fashion designers Gillian Hung, Afiq M and Bremen Wong for making it happen."

Kayda also said she wanted her music video to be colourful and memorable, and the production company Black Visuals Productions did a good job.

"The message behind the song is women have to be themselves and not allow their lives to be dictated by others."

Len Macam is available on iTunes and can be streamed on Joox, KKBox, Spotify, Deezer, Apple Music and YouTube Music.
