KUALA LUMPUR: After a 13-year-hiatus, iconic hip-hop-rock quintet Pop Shuvit is back with a brand new album.
Titled Phantom Frequencies, it was unveiled at a listening session for fans and friends at Swee Lee, Lot 10, Jalan Sultan Ismail here today.
The band's lead singer Moots or M. Murali Dharan said that Phantom Frequencies contained eight singles which included cover versions of famous songs by popular Malaysian artistes as well as themselves.
"The album's first single, Gila Kuasa, is specially for the suffering people of Palestine. Here, we collaborate with Noh Salleh of Hujan in urging listeners to stand up for the Palestinians and show them our utmost support and sympathy," he said.
The other songs in the album are Melaju, Believer, Space Between Us, Over You, Berbisik, a cover version of KRU's Awas and a remix of the band's 2007 hit Marabahaya from the movie Impak Maksima.
Moots said they collaborated with well-known local and international artistes in most of the songs - Yonniboi, Adam Eiman, Sya, Emmett of Butterfingers, Wing Meng of Love Me Butch, Ray Toro of My Chemical Romance, Lean Ansing of Slapshock, Dandee and the late Jamir Garcia.
"We will be releasing Gila Kuasa complete with a music video on our YouTube channel come Aug 16 and the album will be available on all major streaming platforms on Sept 6," said Moots.
Pop Shuvit which also comprises Jedidiah Wong or JD, Nazrin Nasir or AJ, Rudy Malik, and Syazlee Zalsyam or Uno was formed in 2001, and has five studio albums to its credit.
They won the Anugerah Kembara special award for promoting Malaysian music internationally at the 15th Anugerah Industri Muzik (2008) and the Best Music Video for Oh! Sizuka at the 17th Anugerah Industri Muzik (2010).
