KUALA LUMPUR: A New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd (NSTP) Video Unit journalist was one of six nominated in the Rising Star Of The Year category for the inaugural TikTok Awards MY 2023 set to take place in August.
According to Harian Metro Online, Azrul Affandi Sobry, who is also the assistant head of the NSTP Video Unit, will be competing with five other big names in content creation on TikTok, namely Gastonpong, ikhmalnOur, Zarul Hafiz, chefdaveveganjourney and yuki_dance.
With 1.3 million followers on TikTok, Azrul (@penceritatv) became widely known after appearing frequently in various special programmes on all of NSTP's platforms, consisting of Berita Harian (BH), Harian Metro (HM) and the New Straits Times (NST).
Among the things that garnered attention was his active appearance as a podcast host, vlogger and presenter for live broadcasts on all those platforms, in addition to his experience as an investigative journalist since joining BH in 2006.
TikTok Awards MY 2023, to be broadcast live on TV3 on Aug 27, will present the winners for seven fan-choice categories, including Popular Animation Account Of The Year, Creator of The Year, TikTok Shop Creator of The Year, Popular Creator of The Year, Live Creator of The Year and Celebrity Of The Year.
In addition to the fan's choice categories, several other jury-chosen awards will also be announced on the same night following their content types such as entertainment, education, tourism and more.
The Awards Night, a collaboration between TikTok and TV3, will mark the country's biggest social media awards event that had previously been organised in several other countries including Indonesia and Thailand.
