KUALA LUMPUR: The mischievous and adventurous animated twins Upin & Ipin may be a hit with Malaysian children, but in neighbouring Indonesia adults love them too.
In fact, their creator Les' Copaque Productions' founder Burhanuddin Md Radzi said entire families watch the animated series which is screened five hours a day on Indonesian television.
"For Indonesians, Upin & Ipin is not a children's programme but family entertainment. People there appreciate the important life lessons that are found in each episode of the twins' hilarious weekly adventures," said Burhanuddin in an interview with Harian Metro Online yesterday.
Burhanuddin added that his company had always envisioned the animated series as a family-oriented programme which imparts wholesome values to young viewers and promotes national unity.
"The series also features characters from Indonesia and highlights the importance of friendship between Malaysians and their regional neighbours."
Burhanuddin's comments on Upin & Ipin came two days after the Governor of the Indonesian province of Bali Wayan Koster urged students to watch Indonesian television programmes instead of Malaysian ones such as Upin & Ipin.
