KUALA LUMPUR: Following an official statement released by actress Ruhainies on her recent khalwat controversy, fellow artiste Aliff Aziz has also finally come clean with his explanation on the matter that took place last Saturday.
In a lengthy post on his IG account yesterday, the 33-year-old Singaporean actor and singer said that he did not want to release a statement on the issue that had gone viral too soon as he "didn't want to be overly emotional and hasty".
He added that he did not want any of the facts to be twisted out of proportion by any party.
Aliff offered a chronological breakdown of events that took place during that fateful day in the post.
He said that he and Ruhainies had just finished filming for the day.
"On the way back to KL, we left in a convoy with Ruhainies' personal assistant.
"Ruhainies had informed me that her siblings had planned to have dinner at her place that night.
"So, since there would be other people there, I did not think that there would be any problem with me joining in," he said.
Aliff added that he was friends with Ruhainies' sister Risteena who would also be there for the family dinner and wanted to catch up with her since he had not seen her in a long time.
"When I arrived at the condominium, I helped to carry her luggage from the shoot upstairs while waiting for her sister who was still on the way over.
"The right way would have been for me to wait in the lobby. But since I did not think that it to lead to this unexpected situation, I went up to her unit."
Aliff said that as the two were chatting in her home while waiting for Risteena, there was a knock on the door.
"Ruhainies who initially thought her sister had arrived, heard a man's voice chatting outside.
"For safety reasons, she then called her sister and asked if she had arrived. Risteena told her not to open the door and to wait until she arrived.
"I was just in the living room and when this situation happened, it was really a surprise".
Aliff added that when Risteena finally arrived, there were officers from the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (Jawi) and the police.
There were also many other people outside by that time.
"Ruhainies then asked her sister to talk to the officers and would open the door once there were only the police and Jawi officers outside.
"They were very professional in carrying out their duties according to the procedures.
"We were then brought to Jawi to give our statements in line with the established procedures.
"After doing that, we went home," he said.
Aliff explained that he was writing this official statement for anyone who wanted to listen and added that he did not want to make any excuses.
"However, what is wrong is still wrong. I want to apologise for my mistake.
"I would also like to make it clear that nothing whatsoever had happened between the two of us.
"I take this as a test and consider it a lesson learnt and will be more careful in the future.
"And because of this mistake of mine, the consequences were not just that it has ruined my reputation, but also that of my family.
"Once again, I want to apologise. Thank you for reading and peace be upon you," he said.
It was earlier reported that a married celebrity and his partner, an actress, were arrested for khalwat after being accused of being together at a luxury condominium.
Following the incident, Aliff and Ruhainies each reportedly promised to provide further explanations regarding the controversy.
Previously, through Instagram posts, Aliff claimed that the enforcement officer's arrest report was exaggerated and too speculative compared to the actual story.
However, Aliff reportedly admitted that he understood the perception that arose because of what happened, which could raise suspicions that could lead to defamation.
Bella, whose full name is Dayang Nabellah Awang Astillah had filed for divorce from Aliff Aziz at the Federal Territory Syariah Court in Jalan Duta in Kuala Lumpur on Monday.
