KUALA LUMPUR: The recent issue involving the KK Super Mart chain has affected comedian and former radio presenter Shuib of Sepahtu fame.
The 39-year-old artiste, who is also the company's brand ambassador, said he was angry when the issue went viral recently.
"As a Muslim, I am impacted by this unfortunate incident. This kind of thing should not happen in any business or situation because Muslims will get angry. The name of Allah is a really big matter.
"I'm angry. It's despicable what happened. But the case isn't over yet, the investigation is still ongoing. If it's true, then I won't support it, I won't approve of it at all," he said in a Harian Metro report today.
Shuib, whose real name is Shahmira Muhammad, added that he was just an outsider looking to see what develops next.
"I cannot comment any further because it involves business and people's sensitivities. But my position is strong as a Muslim and if there are things that are wrong and in violation, then I won't support," he said.
Shuib, who has been an ambassador for close to four years now, said that he still has a long way to go since he had just renewed his contract with the company.
However, he is ready to give up his responsibilities as an ambassador if necessary.
"If that's the case then so be it. Because I always believe in rezeki (sustenance). But no matter where I go, I will always regard myself as a Muslim first," he said.
With regards to being offered as a brand ambassador, Shuib said: "It's subjective because we don't even know what the future will be like."
"When an offer comes, many things have to be taken into account. But maybe if there's an offer after this, I'll have to do more research first," he said.
Last week, the issue of socks inscribed with the word Allah sold at a KK Super Mart branch went viral on social media after a user uploaded a picture of the offending product.
The unfortunate incident prompted the management of KK Super Mart led by Datuk Seri Dr KK Chai to publicly apologise and halt the sales of the socks immediately.
