KUALA LUMPUR: Singer, television host and radio announcer Dina Nadzir is suffering from mild depression and undergoing treatment for it.
The 39-year-old Malaysian Idol 1 runner-up said in an interview with Harian Metro yesterday that she "lost a few friends" as a result of her condition which began last year.
"I wanted to share my problems with them, but they got annoyed and did not want to speak to me again," said Dina.
"They did not understand what I was going through and thought I was crazy.
"Nevertheless they told me to seek medical help, and I did just that."
Dina also said that she cried to herself in the wee hours of the morning for no reason and became less focused at work.
"This happened last year, but things gradually got better around New Year. However the depression returned last March," said Dina, who has chosen to share her problems with a few close family members.
"The psychiatrist whom I consulted told me it was mild depression. He advised me to get rid of all the things in my life that I was not happy about," she said.
"First things first, I decided to gradually lose weight. With exercise and better control of what I eat, I have successfully lost 10kg over the last month."
