KUALA LUMPUR: Renowned entertainment journalist of the 1980s and 1990s, Kamal Huzaini Kamaludin, 59, better known as Huzz, died of colon cancer today.
He breathed his last at 6.10pm today at his brother's residence in Bertam, Kepala Batas, Penang.
The news was confirmed by his sister, Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin, 57, who is also Bernama chief executive officer.
Nur-ul Afida had earlier said her brother's health was deteriorating and he was under the care of doctors.
In March, Huzz was admitted to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for a surgery to remove a tumour in his colon. He was later diagnosed with stage four colon cancer.
He was discharged after several months of treatment at the hospital. He was then taken to his brother's residence in Bertam on May 31 for follow-up care.
His condition became critical after almost a week in Penang.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim gave a contribution to Huzz through his political secretary, Ahmad Farhan Fauzi, during a visit to HKL on May 21.
Huzz began his journalism career with the 'Harian Nasional' newspaper in the 1980s.
He later joined Kumpulan Karangkraf under the magazine 'Media Hiburan'.
In the early 1990s, Huzz joined Utusan Melayu (M) Bhd as a journalist for 'URTV' magazine. He is well known for his gossip column 'Sensasi Huzz' in the 'Pancaindera' supplement of 'Mingguan Malaysia'.
He was later promoted to assistant editor of 'Mangga' magazine, working alongside the late Mama Juwie.
His last position was editor of 'URTV'. He retired after 'Utusan Melayu' ceased operations in 2019.
He was also a lyricist known for the song 'Keangkuhan Mu' performed by Ramlah Ram.
