PUTRAJAYA: Comedian Harith Iskander and Dr Jezamine Lim have divorced with a single pronouncement of talak (talak satu) in front of Syarie Judge Siti Noraini Mohd Ali at the Federal Territory Syariah Court today.
Their lawyer, Datuk Akberdin Abdul Kader, said they filed two applications: for divorce and alimony, both of which were resolved at the same time.
"We filed two applications, one for divorce and one for alimony. The divorce application was completed earlier, with Harith pronouncing the divorce at 12.05pm with a single pronouncement. The divorce application was mutual.
"As for alimony involving the children, it was also resolved earlier. However, the application for custody will be held next week," he said.
Akberdin said the reason for the divorce was irreconcilable differences, but they still maintain a good relationship for the sake of their children.
"The reason is the usual irreconcilable differences; everything went well, and they remain good friends for the sake of the children, no issues," he said.
On July 8, 41-year-old Dr Jezamine filed for divorce at the Federal Territory Lower Syariah Court here.
She stated that she filed it about a month ago and did not deny the news.
After the news gained widespread attention, the couple then made a clarification about their marital situation through a podcast on YouTube.
Harith, 58, had said it was due to his personal failings, adding that it was not a sudden decision but was something they had been considering for a long time.
He had said they had come to the decision to divorce only after taking considerable efforts to save their marriage.
Harith and Dr Jezamine were married on June 12, 2010. They have three children: Zander Xayne, 14; Alessandra Jayne, 11; and Zydane Zayne, 9.
