#SHOWBIZ: 'Pokémon' voice actress Rachael Lillis dies of cancer at 46

KUALA LUMPUR: American voice actress Rachael Lillis, known for the roles of Misty and Jessie in the English language versions of TV series and movies from the popular Japanese anime franchise Pokémon, has died.

She was 46.

The unfortunate news was shared by Veronica Taylor, who voices Ash in the Pokémon animated series, via social media on Monday.

"It is with a very heavy heart that I share the news of the passing of Rachael Lillis on Saturday evening, 10 August 2024.

"Rachael was an extraordinary talent, a bright light that shone through her voice whether speaking or singing.

"She will be forever remembered for the many animated roles she played, with her iconic performances as Pokemon's Misty and Jessie being the most beloved.

"Rachael was so thankful for all the generous love and support that was given to her as she battled cancer.

"It truly made a positive difference. Her family also wishes to thank you as they take this time to grieve privately.

"A memorial is being planned for a future date," said Taylor in the post.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the New York-born artiste voiced the roles of Jessie and Misty in the Pokémon TV series for 423 episodes between 1997 and 2015.

She was also involved in many movie adaptations including Pokémon: The First Movie in 1998, Pokémon: The Movie 2000, and Pokémon: Mewtwo Returns (2001), as well as the Pokémon Puzzle League video game.

Her other English language voice acting credits include Your Lie in April, Hunter x Hunter, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn.
