#SHOWBIZ: Taiwanese actress Vivian Hsu reveals thyroid cancer diagnosis

KUALA LUMPUR: Taiwanese actress Vivian Hsu had barely recovered from her split with her husband of nine-years, Singapore-based businessman Sean Lee, when she was dealt with another blow.

According to 8 Days, the 49-year-old artiste recently revealed on Instagram that she was diagnosed with early stages of thyroid cancer following a health check at the beginning of the year.

Vivian, who has a nine-year-old son Dalton, struggled to accept the news, questioning: "Why me?"

But she quickly mustered some courage and underwent surgery in a hospital.

She assured fans that she was doing well now and was really lucky to have detected and treated the illness early.

Vivian said that she had always been health-conscious but has "some hereditary issues".

"My child is still young. I will be healthy, so I can accompany him for a long time. Mothers are strong. I won't be so easily defeated," she wrote.

"After my surgery wound healed, I began taking singing lessons. Since the muscles in my throat have shifted slightly, it took some time and repeated practice for me to find the right vocal placement," she said.

She held performances in Macau in April, a listening party for her latest album It's My Turn and is currently promoting her new film Doubles Match.
