HE is well known for acting in historical K-dramas and has been crowned "King of Saeguk" (King of Historical Dramas) by his fans, but Lee Joon Gi proved that he was a brilliant entertainer during his first fan meet in Malaysia recently.
It's no surprise that Lee could sing well given that he had released nine albums and also sang the soundtracks for some of the dramas he starred in.
However, Malaysian fans were still stunned by his vocals as well as his impeccable dance moves.
What made the whole experience at the Mega Star Arena in Kuala Lumpur even more exciting was the four-member live band, something uncommon in K-pop fan meets and even concerts.
The crowd, the cheers and the chants for the actor made Lee blush as he had to remind his fans that it was just a fan meet.
"You guys make me feel shy, as if this was a concert. Please bear in mind that this is just a fan meet. I do not want to disappoint all of you if you thought it was more than that," said Lee.
For three hours, Lee sang a total of 25 songs. The set list was a mix of his songs as well as those from other artistes.
The concert kicked off with his hit song from 2016, 'Thank You', followed by 'Now' and 'Can't Be Slow'.
The highlight was when Lee sang the soundtracks for his key dramas which captivated fans, especially when snippets from the dramas were played in the background.
One of his notable dramas was 'Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart' which aired in 2016. The song he sang drew cheers from fans mainly due to Lee's memorable role in the show that is still fondly remembered.
Other tunes included 'In My Heart', 'Run' and 'Chosen One'.
'I REGRET NOT COMING HERE SOONER'
The 2024 Lee Joon Gi Asia Tour Festival was Lee's first time in Malaysia.
Lee's arrival at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport the day before his fan meet saw well-wishers thronging the arrival hall to welcome the 42-year old actor.
"I was surprised to see so many fans there. I thought to myself, if I knew I had this many fans here, I should have come here sooner.
"I apologise for taking so long to be here and to meet you guys. Maybe after this, you will see me more often," said Lee as the fans cheered on.
There were also groups from China, Taiwan, Japan, Indonesia, Singapore, Macau and South Korea to greet him at KLIA.
Lee even joked that he was going to some of these locations after Kuala Lumpur and asked why did the fans come to Malaysia to see him.
DANCE CREW
Lee had four musicians to back him on stage. They were Kim Kyou Jin on the drums, Yu Ung Ryeol on guitar, Kim Hyun Ji on bass and Lim Hyun Jun on the keyboard.
He was also accompanied by the Black Squad Dance Crew.
The live band's rendition of 'Rasa Sayang', and Jason Mraz's 'I'm Yours' showed style as they made the songs sound fresh.
Black Squad Dance Crew showed great moves and used the whole stage with the more upbeat songs like 'Standing Next To You', originally sung by BTS' Jeon Jungkook, and 'Uptown Funk'.
Lee closed the fan meet, organised by Lo-Fi Entertainment, Hit Maker Entertainment and Sliding Doors Entertainment, with 'Together' where fans grooved along to Lee's rapping skills.
Before the show came to a close, Lee had the crowd on their feet, dancing to the tunes.
He made his fans really happy!
