#SHOWBIZ: I'm very fearful of Aleesya's safety these days — Erra Fazira

KUALA LUMPUR: Crimes against children are on the rise and this is a cause for concern, said actress Erra Fazira recently.

In a recent news report, Erra expressed concern for the safety of her daughter, Engku Aleesya Engku Emran, and said that she wanted to keep a close eye on her only child.

"These days I accompany Aleesya whenever she goes out of the house. That's because it's pretty unsafe for youngsters — crimes against children are aplenty and social media is rife with predators too."

Erra said that if Aleesya wanted to go to a shopping mall like One Utama with her friends, she would send her there.

"But I would not hang out with them, it's normal for a teenager to be shy with her friends if her mother is around."

Erra, 50, also said that Aleesya was only allowed to use a mobile phone at certain times.

"Aleesya is quite an introvert who rarely shares her personal details. So my job is to get her to chat with me more often."

Erra married singer and actor Datuk Yusry Abdul Halim in 2003, but they were divorced after three years.

Erra then married businessman Engku Emran Engku Zainal Abidin.

They have one daughter Aleesya who is now 15 but divorced after seven years.
