#SHOWBIZ: 25 years of supporting artistes

Persatuan Karyawan Malaysia (Karyawan) has consistently played a key role in supporting Malaysian artistes.

Last June, Karyawan held the 'Konsert Amal, Legends' event in Kuala Lumpur, and now they are bringing the charity concert to Sabah.

The upcoming 'Konsert Amal, Legends' will take place at the Sabah International Convention Centre in Kota Kinabalu on Nov 1.

Karyawan president Datuk Freddie Fernandez shared that this event, organised by chairman Datuk Khadijah Ibrahim (Khaty), will feature 11 renowned musicians and singers.

These include Datuk Ramli Sarip, Datuk Jamal Abdillah, celebrated guitarist Man Kidal, and Khaty herself.

"Next year, Karyawan will celebrate its 25th anniversary. Over the years, we've helped many artistes in need, especially veteran performers.

"We've provided support while they're still alive because that's our mission," Fernandez told 'Harian Metro'.

"I'm grateful to Khaty, who has injected new energy into this initiative. She's taken on the role I previously held, and together, we're achieving even more."

The funds raised from the Sabah concert will not only support artistes in Kuala Lumpur, but also those in Sabah who are struggling.

Khadijah also expressed her passion for the cause, explaining how Freddie immediately supported her idea to expand the charity concert.

"Freddie was ready to step back and let me take the lead. For me, it's important to act while we have the energy.

"We've organised this concert for all of our artiste friends like Hairee of KOOL, who hails from Sandakan, and the response has been very encouraging."

The concert's mission is to assist 15 struggling artistes in Sabah, with strong support from fellow artistes such as Datuk Jamal and Datuk Ramli.

Khadijah added: "We want to ensure no artiste is left asking for help. Our mission is to create opportunities and lend a helping hand to those who need it."

After the show in Sabah, Karyawan plans to tour to other locations as well, beginning with the 'Sweet Charity and Kopratasa' concert in Melaka.

There will be other concerts in Perak and Johor Baru.

Jamal praised Khaty's efforts, noting that selling 250 tables for the concert was no easy feat.

The nearly three-hour-long concert will also feature performances by Sabah-born talents such as Jimmy Palikat, Ayu Damit, Azharina Azhar, Mad Sabah and Daniesh Suffian.

Popular singer Aina Abdul will also be performing at the event.
