KUALA LUMPUR: Following her recent podcast appearance with Neelofa and Natasha Ozeir, actress Nora Danish faced criticism from netizens who claimed her discussion of household responsibilities and 'nafkah' (subsistence) was a veiled reference to the recent divorce of celebrity couple Fattah Amin and Nur Fazura.
Nora clarified that the podcast episode was recorded in July, soon after her own divorce, and was in no way intended to target anyone. "This episode was recorded months ago, but due to work schedules, it was only just released," she told BH Online.
"When it was set to air, I did worry that some might feel targeted.
"However, the discussion was broad and intended to raise awareness, not aimed at anyone."
According to Nora, the episode explored general causes of divorce, with financial issues being a key factor.
"Our discussion was aimed at educating men on the importance of providing nafkah, which, if neglected, can lead to further issues like misunderstandings or infidelity," she said. "Nafkah is crucial for household harmony, regardless of whether the wife is employed."
Nora dismissed rumours that the topic was based on her personal experiences, asserting that her perspective was intended as helpful advice.
"I've never shared personal grievances or exposed anyone.
"The aim was simply to highlight a key responsibility in marriage, not to reflect on my own life," she added.
Responding to her recent label as a "hot divorcee," on social media, Nora remained unfazed.
"A friend mentioned it to me, and I don't feel burdened by it.
"I've been in the industry a long time and have grown accustomed to comments like these," she said.
"While such remarks can undermine a woman's dignity, I prefer not to dwell on them," said the actress, who is set to appear in the upcoming drama series, Langit Ke Tujuh, on TV3 and Tonton.
