KUALA LUMPUR: After a failed attempt to conceive via In vitro fertilisation (IVF) treatment which they had gone through last year, singer Hazama and his wife Genervie Kam are not ready to give it another try just yet.
The 40-year-old singer said the treatment is costly and seeing that he had just recently used his savings to top up the cost of producing his new album, they decided not to try again.
"So now we'll just leave it to fate. If God wants to grant us a child, praise be to Allah. And if not, we'll just be thankful and continue to love each other," he told reporters when met at the launch of his new album Pujangga at a hotel in Petaling Jaya yesterday.
"I'm okay about this (not having a child yet), but it may be a little sensitive to women. But we have never stopped praying and trying.
"The last time we tried the IVF, it failed because we faced various problems during the treatment.
"There are many sacrifices required from both of us if we wanted to ensure its success rate, such as taking a long break and not allowing ourselves to be under any sort of pressure," he explained.
He added that Kam once had an ectopic pregnancy, which required a salpingectomy, which involved the removal of one of the fallopian tubes.
"So, there's a high risk if she tried to conceive again," he shared.
Believing that God is always the best planner, Hazama said he accepts whatever comes his way.
"Besides, we've always been surrounded by my nephews since they were small. So we don't really feel like a childless couple.
"And perhaps, our career path might have been different if we had children.
"I might not be able to wrap up this album," he put it in a positive perspective.
Hazama married Kam, a music director, on Jan 14, 2017.
