#SHOWBIZ: 'Benci Jadi Cinta' breaks new ground

GET ready for a fresh take on romantic comedy with TV3's first-ever vertical series, 'Benci Jadi Cinta'.

Premiering today (Dec 9) on TikTok Drama Sangat, this 20-episode series promises two-minute doses of humour, tension, and romance — all perfectly tailored for the scrolling generation.

When the structured and monochrome-loving Syah (played by Syahmie Thsaqeef) meets the quirky and colourful Orked (portrayed by Harissa Adlynn), sparks fly — but not the romantic kind.

Their wildly opposing personalities clash in a workplace filled with chaos, witty banter, and unexpected heart-to-hearts.

Yet, as fate would have it, their fiery dynamic begins to melt into something softer. Could these polar opposites find love in the midst of their drama?

WORKPLACE COLLISION TURNED LOVE STORY

The story kicks off when Orked's broken high heel accidentally lands on Syah, sparking instant animosity. Syah, a no-nonsense guy with a preference for order, is the polar opposite of the spontaneous, bright, and slightly disorganised Orked.

Their first encounter sets the tone for a hilarious, tension-filled relationship.

But the workplace has other plans. When the duo is assigned to collaborate on a high-stakes project, they are forced to spend more time together, exposing their vulnerabilities.

Amid sarcastic remarks and heated debates, they begin to share their dreams, fears, and even moments of awkward sweetness.

Think spontaneous coffee runs, last-minute problem-solving, and unexpected glimpses into each other's softer sides.

As their professional and personal lives blur, the question lingers: will they let their feelings grow, or will their egos — and perhaps a meddling third party — get in the way?

NEW FRONTIER FOR TV3

What makes 'Benci Jadi Cinta' truly groundbreaking is its format. Designed specifically for TikTok, this vertical drama series represents TV3's innovative leap into the digital age.

The network's general manager of cContent, Marlia Zul Amran, shared her excitement:

"TV3 is committed to staying ahead of trends and meeting viewers where they are — on social media. With 'Benci Jadi Cinta', we're bringing fresh, vibrant storytelling to the TikTok platform, which has proven to be a cultural phenomenon. We believe this format will resonate strongly with the younger generation while keeping Malaysia's top broadcaster at the forefront of entertainment."

POTENT CHEMISTRY

Lead actor Syahmie Thsaqeef couldn't hide his enthusiasm for stepping into the spotlight in this unique project.

"I'm thrilled to take on my first lead role in TV3's debut vertical series," Syahmie said.

"Portraying Syah comes with its challenges, but I see it as an opportunity to grow as an actor.

"The storyline is heartwarming yet modern, bringing back the essence of classic rom-coms but with a fresh twist that today's audiences will love," he added.

Harissa Adlynn, who plays Orked, is equally excited about the series' potential to capture hearts.

"Orked's personality is so vibrant, and I think viewers will really enjoy watching her grow in the story.

"The chemistry between the characters feels so real — it's been an amazing journey bringing this to life."

SHORT AND SWEET

With its quick-paced episodes, visually striking colors, and relatable characters, 'Benci Jadi Cinta' is perfect for anyone seeking a dose of light-hearted entertainment during their lunch break or downtime.

The short episode format is ideal for the TikTok generation, making it highly accessible and binge-worthy.
