#SHOWBIZ: I am sane, would never insult the Ibans - Ifa Raziah

KUALA LUMPUR: Singer, actress, and host Ifa Raziah has clarified that she never intended to insult the Iban community following a comment she made on social media that recently went viral.

Ifa, whose real name is Saripah Raziah Mustapha, explained that the comment was a lighthearted joke exchanged with a friend but was misconstrued by some, Berita Harian reported.

"Honestly, I was surprised because the comment I posted six weeks ago only went viral recently. I was in Singapore at the time and was puzzled by the sudden influx of notifications," she said during a press conference.

The controversial comment, which read, "I'm shocked, wondering which Iban woman has gotten lost," sparked accusations of racism and insensitivity.

Ifa explained that her remarks were taken out of context.

"It was just a joke. I did not mean to offend or body-shame anyone, especially the Iban community.

"The headpiece adorned with flowers in the video was beautiful and unique, and I was simply commenting on its distinctiveness," she said.

Ifa emphasised that she holds great respect for Bornean cultures and has many friends from Sarawak and Sabah.

"Borneo people are some of the most beautiful people I know. How could I insult them? I am of sound mind and would never engage in racist behavior," she said.

Acknowledging the misunderstanding, Ifa offered a heartfelt apology.

"To the people of Sarawak, Sabah, and especially the Iban community, I sincerely apologise if my words caused hurt. I had no intention of offending anyone. With humility, I ask for forgiveness."

Ifa also expressed hope that the issue could be resolved amicably.

"Apologising costs me nothing. I hope this explanation puts the matter to rest and prevents further misunderstandings," she said.

The controversy arose after a screenshot of Ifa's comment was shared online, leading to widespread criticism.

Many netizens expressed disappointment, calling for greater sensitivity toward racial and cultural differences.
