FORMER 'Akademi Fantasia 8' second runner-up Daus Eli may not be a big name in Malaysian music but he does have a strong following on both sides of the South China Sea.
Daus is back to greet fans with his latest single, 'Terukir', that talks about making one's mark in his or her career.
The Kuching-born's fifth single is his first collaboration with Alternate Records & Talents, bringing a new dimension to his musical journey.
LOVE
At the song's recent launch in Saprah restaurant, Jalan Kampung Pandan, Kuala Lumpur, Daus said: "'Terukir' is not just a love song, it is a song that combines elements of true love, sincerity and spirituality, making it a unique and profound song."
Through deep and profound lyrics such as "Kan ku terima cintamu di atas nama-Nya" (I accept your love in God's name) and "Selagi kau selalu ada, terbit rasa cinta" (As long as you are here, I feel loved) Daus conveys a message of love that is not only romantic, but also based on faith in the Almighty.
PROCESS
Daus, who loves happy songs, said the process of producing the song took two months, involving music arrangement and vocal recording, as well as the mixing and mastering process.
"I was also involved as a composer and lyricist for this song with Syed Asyraf. It was a meaningful experience, and I hope the message in this song can touch the hearts of listeners," he said.
MOOD BOOSTER
Daus said the catchy song combines pop and reggae elements, and brings a cheerful atmosphere that serves as a mood booster for listeners.
"Behind the fresh rhythm, there is a depth of emotion that highlights the beauty of true love."
'Terukir' also carries the themes of mature and sincere love.
MENTOR
Daus or Muhammad Shahril Firdaus Eli, became known to music lovers through 'Akademi Fantasia Season 8' in 2010, and his music mentor is the show's principal Datuk Norman Abdul Halim of KRU.
Daus said: "I now mark 14 years in the entertainment industry. I may have slowed down because of family but I have never stopped making a name for myself despite facing challenges and trials throughout my career."
HOPE
He said: "This single brings great hope to me, not only to continue to be known but also to leave an impact on the listener.
"I hope 'Terukir' will bring about an emotional connection between me and my fans."
INSPIRATION
The inspiration behind 'Terukir' arose from a casual conversation and some guitar-playing in his hometown, Kuching.
"The main inspiration came from the words of the wedding vows and the love story of Prophet Adam and his wife Eve, which was translated into poetic lyrical verses as 'Segalanya terukir sehingga terpisahnya jasad dan sifat' (Everything is etched until the separation of body and soul).
JOURNEY
"The song carries the message that every love and journey of our lives has been written by the Almighty."
Syed Asyraf, the song's co-writer, said: "It reminds us to always be confident and accept destiny with an open heart.
"This song combines spiritual elements with romantic lyrics, providing a deep experience to the listener."
CHALLENGES
Daus said there were challenges in presenting the themes of mature and sincere love to various levels of society without being misinterpreted.
"Creating something unique is the main challenge. I want 'Terukir' to be remembered not only as a song, but as a work that leaves a long-lasting impact," he said.
GIFT
Daus added: "'Terukir' is a work that celebrates love, loyalty and the beauty of meaningful relationships.
"This song is a special gift for fans who appreciate music full of emotion and deep meaning.
"With a touching melody and poetic lyrics, it is a testament to my 'growth' as a musician and singer."
Terukir is now on the iTunes platform and other online streaming applications such as Spotify and YouTube Music.
