#SHOWBIZ: Composer Zul Mahat suddenly collapses

KUALA LUMPUR: Composer Zul Mahat was hospitalised at Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (PPUM) after a fall during dialysis treatment at a facility in Subang Jaya in late December.

According to his close friend Rosnah Abdul Aziz, Zul experienced severe stomach pain while undergoing treatment and went to use the restroom.

"He waited for his turn, but as soon as he entered, he collapsed. The ambulance was called immediately, and paramedics performed CPR as his heart had stopped. Thankfully, they managed to revive him," Rosnah told Harian Metro.

Zul was admitted to PPUM's emergency ward before being transferred to a general ward.

He sustained injuries to his chin and eyes, as well as fractures to his right hand and shoulder.

Currently bedridden and using a ventilator, Zul requires assistance with basic needs.

"Today marks nine days in the hospital. Initially, his memory was weak, but it's improving, and he's becoming more stable," Rosnah added.

Zul can now communicate, and several prominent artistes, including Datuk Nora and Amran Omar, have visited him.

Others, such as Datuk Syed Sobrie and Datuk M Nasir, are expected to visit soon due to their close ties with the composer.

Zul, the youngest of six siblings, has outlived four of them and only has an elder sister now.

He was previously married to actress Shasha of Ali Setan 2 fame.

A prolific composer, Zul has created hit songs for artistes like Fauziah Latiff (Sahabat), Datuk Nora (Secebis Harapan), Spider (Sesat Dalam Gelita), and Min Malik (Perjalanan Duka).

He also frequently accompanied M Nasir in concerts and recordings.
