SUBANG JAYA: Chinese carmaker Beijing Automotive Group Co Ltd (BAIC) today launched its first two passenger car models for the Malaysian market, the X55 and BJ40 Plus.
In a statement today, its vice-general manager Chen Wei said Southeast Asia, particularly Malaysia, with its mature automotive production system, represents a thriving market with growing demand for quality, new energy, and intelligent vehicles, areas BAIC excels.
"BAIC is committed to expand its presence and establish a sales and service network to offer diversified and high-quality choices to Malaysian consumers," Chen, also chairman of BAIC Motor Corporation Ltd, said.
It aims to open 10 dealership outlets nationwide this year with Edaran Otomobil Elektrik (M) Sdn Bhd operating the first, the statement said.
BAIC is among China's leading car makers with a cumulative vehicle sales of 36 million units, the statement said.
The X55 and BJ40 Plus will be displayed at the BAIC showroom, Wisma Consplant 2, Subang Jaya, Selangor from May 17-19.
The starting price of the X55 is about RM120,000 and BJ40 Plus, RM180,000.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, also Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister, officiated the launch. – BERNAMA
