Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal have pledged their loyalty to Umno and its struggle, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in a blog post early today.
He said this following an Umno Supreme Council meeting yesterday, putting to rest speculation that the meeting was to dismiss the two Umno leaders, who were dropped from cabinet two months ago, from the party.
“Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, as deputy president, has declared his loyalty and willingness to continue the struggle to ensure the success of Umno in the next general election.
“Similarly, Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie who shows the same commitment has expressed his willingness to work for the party,” he said, on najibrazak.com, adding that the meeting displayed a spirit of togetherness.
He said that the issue of sacking anyone in the party was not at all discussed in the meeting.
After the meeting yesterday, Muhyiddin had declared that he was a “true-blue” Umno member.
Also discussed were current affairs and the importance of solidarity in the ranks of Umno leaders and the
Supreme Council as the foundation to guarantee the continuity of UMNO as the ruling party.
“There are a number of matters that have to be handled to fulfil the peoples wishes, which includes the 1MDB (1Malaysia Development Bhd) issue, which is now in the process of rationalisation and the reduction of its debt burden,” he added.
