ROMPIN: A 24-year-old French tourist was reported missing after he failed to return to his chalet at Kampung Tekek on Pulau Tioman yesterday.
Jerome Phillipe Laurent had earlier gone for a snorkelling trip by himself at a popular resort nearby about 3pm.
When he did not return to his chalet about 4 hours later, his friend immediately lodged a police report.
District police chief Deputy Superintendent Johari Jahaya confirmed the incident today and said that Laurent had arrived on the island with his friend on Saturday.
He said the search and rescue team had halted their operation at 8pm last night due to bad weather but had resumed it at 8am today.
