Skala Design eyes Mideast mart

KUALA LUMPUR: Skala Design Consult Sdn Bhd plans to spread its wings in the Middle East, citing “lucrative” opportunity in the region’s interior design market.

Its managing director Mohd Nasir Ab Jabar said the Bumiputera-owned company is confident of its track record and has set a target of going global within five years.

He said Skala Design will also continue to strengthen its foothold in the country leveraging on the booming construction and property market, which in turn will push the demand for interior design.

“We want to capitalise on the numerous ongoing mega property projects in the country to build our portfolio, before we go global,” he said after launching Skala Design’s new office, here, yesterday.

The company is now working on an interior design project with the Libyan embassy, here, which Mohd Nasir said could help open the doors for the company to penetrate the country and the region.

“The Middle East offers tremendous opportunity for interior design players compared with other regions. They have ongoing massive development projects and are more open towards hiring foreign interior design companies,” he said.

Mohd Nasir said, Skala Design plans to form a consortium comprising local and foreign interior design companies in its pursuit of venturing abroad.

“We have yet to identify potential partners, but hopefully we can conclude by year end. This will help us bid projects at the international level to fulfil our goal,” he said.

Since its establishment in 2004, Skala Design has won contracts from significant companies, including Putrajaya Holdings Bhd, Petroliam Nasional Bhd, Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd, Bank Islam Malaysia Bhd and UEM Group Holdings Bhd.

It is currently working on a big- scale project with Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Selangor for its new corporate office in Shah Alam.
