KUALA LUMPUR: Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein is scheduled to leave for Kiev, Ukraine tonight to ensure the safety of Malaysia’s security forces when entering the crash site of Malaysia Airlines (MAS) Flight MH17.
He said the government will not sit still as Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had pledged to family members and heirs of victims and will do everything possible to bring home the remains of MH17 victims and bring those responsible to justice.
“There is no closure until we find justice for MH17. Malaysia demands justice so that those responsible for shooting down MH17 be tried. This requires proof which is being gathered, and accurate information.
“I don’t want to risk our security teams. I want to see for myself whether the safe passage to the crash site is a reality,” he told the media after opening Institut Onn Ja’afar here, today.
Hishammuddin did not disclose the parties he will be meeting and reiterated that Malaysia will not interfere in the geopolitics conflict in the region.
After Ukraine, he will go to Moscow and Amsterdam to discuss the MH17 search and investigation efforts.
Australia will join Malaysia to seek justice and find the victims of MH17.
MH17 crashed in eastern Ukraine on July 17 as it was flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur with 283 passengers and 15 crew on board.
