KUALA LUMPUR: Three families staying at the more than 30-year old Jalan Loke Yew flats had a harrowing experience during a hailstorm yesterday.
The walls of their bedroom flew off leaving it exposed. Luckily for them, no one was injured but some of their belongings went flying with the wooden wall.
One of them, Sunita Rosti, 35, said she was alone at home when a gush of strong wind came through the utility balcony and swirled inside the house.
She tried to close the door and all of a sudden the wind blew the wall off.
"I heard some noises in the bedroom and when I went to check, I was shocked to see it was exposed. I am thankful that my children were not at home, as they were staying with my ex-husband," she said.
By the time, concerned neighbours were at the front door to help her.
Sunita who has been staying on the 10th floor for three years said the house was almost flooded after the storm.
"I had no choice but to sleep on the couch. Today, City Hall came to put up a brick wall in my bedroom," she said.
Erdawati Rahman, 40, was not at home when it happened. "Imagine our surprise when we came home to see the wall missing," she said.
The mother of three said some of her clothings and blankets flew off. Her family decided to put up a night at a nearby community hall.
"The front door was wide open when we reached home around 6.30pm. We have moved out our belongings for City Hall workers to work on the new wall for our 13th floor unit," she said.
