Adnan willing to meet Azmin over raw water deal

KUANTAN: Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob said he was prepared to meet with his Selangor counterpart, Mohamed Azmin Ali, to discuss the Pahang-Selangor raw water transfer deal.

This was to ensure that the project could be implemented without delay, he said.

Adnan said he was willing to sit down with Azmin to iron out matters relating to the water deal, including the agreement (signed between Federal Government and former Selangor MB Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim) to ensure smooth implementation of the projects (agreed upon under the agreement) and to protect the people’s interest.

However, Adnan stressed that the state government would not dance to Azmin’s tune or agree with
his proposals.

“We cannot agree to everything that they (PKR-led state government) have proposed, including calls to disclose to the public details of the agreements.

“This is because the contracts of the agreement are currently under the Official Secrets Act and it is up to Putrajaya (Federal Government) to decide. Pahang government will not get involved in the matter,” he said after opening a state-level Bulan Bahasa Kebangsaan at Universiti Malaysia Pahang here yesterday.

On Feb 26, the Federal Government and the Selangor government, represented by Khalid, signed a memorandum of agreement on the water restructuring deal.

On Sept 12, the master agreement on the water supply restructuring in Selangor was signed between Khalid, representing the state government, and the Federal Government, which paved the long-term solution to the water issue in the state.

It was reported that Azmin was seeking the Federal Government’s permission to disclose to the public the agreements signed between the federal and state governments.
