KUALA LUMPUR: Lawyer Eric Paulsen was released on police bail in connection with his tweet claiming that Jakim was spreading extremism in Friday’s sermon.
Federal Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Mohmad Salleh confirmed that Paulsen was released at 4.30pm today but declined to elaborate the details.
Paulsen was released after police had recorded his statement at Dang Wangi police headquarters, here, today.
Speaking to reporters at the headquarters, Paulsen said the investigation was carried out by Dang Wangi and Bukit Aman police. However he declined to comment further on the investigation.
"I must say that the police were professional and I was treated well by them during the remand period," he said.
Paulsen said the incident served as a lesson for him and he would definitely choose his words carefully in the future.
"The tweet uploaded was perceived differently by the public. People who know me would know I did not meant any harm when posting the tweet," he said.
He was arrested at a car park in Brickfields at about 9.30pm on Monday night. Police had seized his laptop and handphone to facilitate investigation.
