Kerambit wielding suspect released on bail

KUALA LUMPUR: The man who brandished a kerambit during a football match at KLFA Football Centre here has been released on bail.

Wangsa Maju police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Lazim Ismail said the suspect was released on police bail on Monday.

"We released him on bail today once the remand expired.

"We have referred the case to the deputy public prosecutor's office with a suggestion that the case be charged under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Dangerous Weapons Act 1958," he said when contacted.

He added that the suspect's girlfriend was still being detained by the Immigration Department.

It was reported that police detained a 22-year-old man and his girlfriend following an incident where he allegedly brandished a 'kerambit' during a football match at KLFA Football Centre last Monday.

Police arrested the man, believed to be an upcoming football player, and his 21-year-old girlfriend at his house in Klang on Aug 8.

A team from the district's Criminal Investigation Division questioned the couple before the suspect admitted to using a kerambit in self-defence during the match.

Images of the initial incident had gone viral on social media.
