Flood: Situation in Sabah worsen

KOTA KINABALU: The flood situation in three districts of Sabah has worsened after more people were forced to leave their home.

Beaufort saw 300 villagers being placed at two relief centres while evacuees in Membakut increased from 275 people to 315 people.

Meanwhile, four relief centres have been set up in Tenom to accommodate more than 300 evacuees.

Water level at rivers started to rise since Monday due to continuous heavy rain, causing waters to flow to low-lying villages.

Yesterday evening, Sipitang was also hit by flood but it was unknown how many people were evacuated.

Sabah fire and rescue operating officer said firefighters were working around the clock, adding no untoward incidents have been reported.
