KUALA LUMPUR: Police are expected to record the Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob's statement over his Facebook post calling for a boycott of Chinese businesses on Sunday.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said Ismail has agreed to cooperate and officers will have his statement recorded by end of the day, today.
"We understand that he has cabinet meeting today, so we have not confirmed the time but my officers are making the necessary arrangements to record his statement about his recent remark on Facebook," he said.
Khalid said Ismail will be investigated under the Section 505b of the Penal Code which states that whoever makes, publishes or circulates statement with intent to cause fear to public tranquility.
It is a non-arrestable case.
Khalid said MCA, Gerakan and DAP members who had also participated in viciously replying to Ismail's statement will also be called to have their statements recorded soon.
"This includes those who have also lodged police reports about the matter," he told reporters after launching the smart library at Police College in Cheras courtesy of Samsung Electronics Sdn Bhd earlier.
Khalid also advised all parties to be careful and sensitive when making statements relating racial elements.
"All parties should stop discussing this matter openly. Even if you choose to do so, do it correctly through the right channel or at a roundtable meeting," Khalid said.
