“YES, I got married at 18 years old and a month after that, he walked out on me without a word,” said Indonesian singer Cita Citata who shot to fame with her debut single Sakitnya Tuh Di Sini.
The popular singer came clean on the rumour surrounding her status surfaced recently.
Cita, whose real name is Cita Rahayu said, her marriage was in limbo for three years, after her husband, Galih Purnama Alias Ijonk (now ex-husband) left her.
“I got married at a very young age. He did not contact me since the day he left our home. And for three years, I was neglected,” said the 21-year-old artiste.
The issue came about when Indonesian Press went to town about her marriage status, following the revelation by her now ex-husband who had come forward to reveal details of their marriage. They officially divorced last March.
“Yes, it is true. I never intended to hide my status from anyone,” she said.
“The Indonesian Press never asked me about my status. I always get questions on whether I am seeing anyone, but never about my status,” said Cita, who was born in Bandung, Indonesia.
The singer added, she had no idea why her ex-husband decided to come out in the open about their marriage, after three years.
“I really don’t know why he did that. Perhaps he wanted publicity for himself,” said Cita, adding that Galih did suggest the idea of a reconciliation but she turned down.
“I’ve had enough. I waited for three years. It’s time to let go,” she said.
Initially, when news on her status was leaked to the media, she was a little surprised but at the same time, she felt relieved that everything is out in the open.
“I just want to move on with my life right now. I want to focus on my singing career and hopefully fans will continue to support me,” she said adding that she looked forward to her debut performance here which will be held this month.
Cita is here to promote her single and her debut performance in Malaysia at two venues -- Plaza Angsana Johor Bahru, Johor on May 9 and Menara KL on May 10.
“I am all geared up to entertain audience here. Looking back, I had never expected to come this far, but I count my blessings and couldn’t have asked for more,” said the petite singer at a Press conference at The Royal Chulan Hotel Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
“This is my first visit to Malaysia, and I am happy to get the chance to be here. I hope fans will enjoy my performances here,” she said.
Sakitnya Tuh Di Sini became a phenomenal hit with more than 50 million views on YouTube to date.
Even though it was released in Indonesia a year ago, the catchy tune prompted many to perform this cute cover and several song parodies as evident in the free video-hosting website.
The single has so far sold 40,000 copies, the first Indonesian dangdut singer to achieve such a feat.
Cita who started her career as a Jazz singer said, her decision to jump into Dangdut is the best decision she had ever made in her life, although she did have second thoughts initially.
“I used to be skeptical about Dangdut. More often than not, it is always linked to negative images. But now, I have a different perspective on the genre. There is nothing wrong about the music, it is all about one’s character,” she added.
