Investigation after polls

GEORGE TOWN: Police have yet to record any statements in connection with the vandalism involving the banners of Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Suhaimi Sabudin in Permatang Pauh.

“We do not want to disrupt the by-election process or disturb those involved, including the supporters, by calling for statements now, said State police chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi.

“That is why, we will start recording the statements after the by-election proper, he said, adding that the matter was being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code

Abdul Rahim said to date the number of investigation papers opened still remains at four and that 46 reports have been received in relation to the polls.

Polling for the Permatang Pauh by-election has been set for May 7. It will see a four-corner fight between Suhaimi, PKR's Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Parti Rakyat Malaysia (PRM)'s Azman Shah Othman and independent Salleh Isahak.
