KUALA SELANGOR: The newly elected pro-ulama leaders in Pas will have to shoulder the heavy responsibility of mending its strained relations with DAP and PKR, said their vanquished rivals today.
Speaking to reporters on his loss in yesterday’s one-sided party polls, former Pas central committee member Khalid Samad today said the new leadership should be given a chance to find a lasting solution to the disunity in Pakatan.
“That’s the problem of the new leadership. We should give them a chance… We leave the responsibility of leading the party and we hope they can bring Pas to higher levels of success.
“We have done our part in bringing Pas to this level. We hope the new leaders can bring it further and fulfil the wishes of the rakyat,” he said calmly.
Khalid, who lost his post in yesterday’s election, added that he would leave it to the new leadership to decide if Pas should maintaining its political cooperation with DAP and PKR.
Former Pas central committee member Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, who lost his post in the election, said he did not expect the ulama faction to win a landslide victory.
“We though the new leadership would be a mix of the ulama and conservatives, but if the delegates have voted this way, then so be it. The dynamics are very interesting now and there is never a dull moment in Malaysian politics,” he said.
